presence

slow down

As I began 2012, I was all set to speed towards my goals. I was full of enthusiasm, laughter, joy and energy as we entered this transformational year.

One week into the new year I broke my foot and was forced to slow down. I kept trying to move at my previous pace, but the more I tried to act like nothing had changed, the more “noise” my inner made to make me realize that I was being asked to Slow Down.

I had viewed the break as a “bad” thing, when it wasn’t. I had tried to act like it had not happened, when it clearly had happened.

When I slowed down, I heard the birds more, I smelled the flowers more, the squirrels stopped to talk to me.

Since I wasn’t moving fast, the squirrels weren’t afraid, so they stopped and I stopped, and we would chat for a minute or two.

What a gift to remember – when I was a child, I used to do the same thing – talk to the animals I met during the day.

The slower and more deliberate I became in my steps and in my conversations, the more present I became. Wow.

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you for this beautiful gift!

Here’s to being present and being open to connecting to the world around you!!
